a large bushel or tub; cf. Norse kútr, cask, Scottish coodie, quiddie, small tub. Middle Irish cuidin, coithin, catînus, is probably from a Celt. kotîno-, Greek $$Gkotúlc, cup, Latin catînus, a dep vessel.
